Corporate Sponsored Scholarships

Beginning in the 2024 scholarship season, the Society of Petroleum Engineers Canadian Educational Foundation has partnered with companies working in the energy industry in Calgary, Alberta to provide Corporate Sponsored Scholarships - valued at $5,000 CAD each - to students across Canada pursuing a degree or diploma with the intentions to enter the Energy Industryโ€ฏupon graduation. The winners of these scholarships are not only awarded the scholarship funds, but also guaranteed an interview for a potential internship with the respective company.

These scholarships are open to students studying at all institutions in Canada. All scholarship applicants must be enrolled full-time in any diploma or degree program in their 2nd or 3rd year with an interest in the energy industry to be eligible. The scholarship is open to global citizens; applicants are NOT required to be Canadian citizens nor permanent residents to apply. However, students must be eligible to work in Canada, and must be living in or willing to relocate to Calgary, AB for the prospective internship term, if successful. We unfortunately cannot award the scholarship to a citizen from a U.S. sanctioned country; find out more here

This year, we have partnered with Orennia Inc. and McDaniel. You can read more about their internship positions and indicate your interest in being considered for these respective scholarships in the General Application Form.

This year’s deadline for applications isโ€ฏJanuary 15, 2024. Applications are now closed.

Scholarship recipients will be selected by a committee through a competitive process. Students submitting applications for scholarships must meet the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled full-time in any diploma or degree program with interest in entering the Energy Industry (Note: Programs outside of engineering and graduate level programs DO qualify. Only students in their 2nd or 3rd year will be eligible, and admission into your educational institution's co-op program may be required).

  • Be an SPE member at the time of your application.โ€ฏIf you are not a member yet, you can easily join for free HERE, courtesy of Chevron.

  • Hold satisfactory academic standing (as determined by the SPECEF Scholarship Committee).

  • Be eligible to work in Canada.

  • Be located in or willing to relocate to Calgary, AB for the duration of the proposed internship.

*Please note that the quality of your application will be taken into account by the SPECEF Scholarship Committee. Make sure you have all documents uploaded and that they are clear and readable.โ€ฏPlease refrain from submitting additional documents that do not support your application directly. Please note that SPECEF is not responsible for the employment process, up to and including administering the internship interview, the hiring process, resulting decisions, or any further and resulting relationships as a result of the Corporate Sponsored Scholarships.
