I am the first person in my family to attend university and did not really know what to expect back when I clicked that apply button, but here I am finishing the final year of my undergraduate degree in petroleum engineering at the University of Alberta. Within a few weeks of starting my first petroleum engineering class I was introduced to SPE, and shortly after I attended my first technical event. I was hooked, and I immediately seen the value in being a part of the U Alberta SPE Student Chapter. Soon after I became an active member supporting our chapter and worked to add value to SPE members. Organizing technical events, industry talks, and a drilling rig tour for members was a rewarding experience in itself. To be recognized by SPECEF for my input as a student member is an honor, and this award will help reduce my student debt as I transition from student to professional.
